Our very 1st post!

November 3, 2013

I'm not quite sure where to start as this is our first blog..... So here goes! My wife (and best friend) approached me a few years ago and ask me if I would consider adopting. Like all good red blooded men who like sports and things with wheels & motors, I immediately said NO.

Before I go into detail, it might help to have a little history of our family. Beth & I have been married for 6+ years. We are not a traditional family in the sense that we met at a young age, married and had children. No, I have a history of doing things differently and quite frankly... my way. Then I met Beth and my whole life changed. I went from a fairly simple life to house with 3 children, 2 mastiffs and a boxer. At one time, we had more animals than people but I will spare you the details on that. We have 3 children boy age 16, girl age 12 and boy age 10.

Back to the adoption... Beth has wanted to adopt a child as long as I've known her. She has this way of planting a seed and sublimely germinating it until it takes hold and starts to grow. In this case, she must have used Miracle Grow, because a month ago I agreed to adopting a child from China. An important note here is singular, Child as in one! Here it is a month later and I find myself facing the question of "Why not adopt 2?". So now I find myself in uncharted waters having agreed to adopt 2 boys.

I started this post back in November and it is now May 2. I'm not sure why I haven't posted this yet, probably because I am terrified and excited all at once. Our 7 year anniversary is 2 days away and our travel to China is less than a month away. So what the hell am I waiting for..... here goes our first post!

  1. I am so excited to follow your blog. I laughed when I read about you doing things differently and your way. I had to share it with my husband. We've done things a bit different as well... met online, eloped less than six months later, have been married now almost nine years, and are in process to adopt our first child, an 11 year old girl. I suspect people are used to us doing things different and just roll their eyes at us now. :) :)

Your sons are adorable and I look forward to following along as you travel to China!
